Naomi turned nineteen yesterday and how else can we possibly celebrate but to go out on either the Sunday before or the Sunday after, since Sunday lunches have been kind of our thing! And so, that was what we did on the Sunday before, 'cause we had exams right after the Sunday after that. Haha confusing much? Trust me, I'm confusing myself too. Hah. And you thought you were alone.
So, the restaurant we went this time was one around the Taman Pelangi area called Food Republique. Nay got to know about it and wanted to try it out. So, Gup drove us there for lunch. The place is right behind Leisure Mall and it's easier to park your vehicle in the mall itself, then walk to the place, as we did. Shed some carbon footprints as you walk and work up an appetite for the foodies!
The ambience of the cafe gave me this very cozy, classy and almost American vibe. And when I say vibe, it's always a thumbs up. And I don't say it exceptionally often. Band posters and movie stars decorated the cream walls and of course, the decor was simple and casual, yet it gave me the very polished kind of feel. I personally thought the lighting was a tad bit too gloomy though. Didn't really like not able to see clearly at the food you're eating and when you're chatting with friends, really. Or perhaps, our seats were too far in.
Service was a tad bit too nice, maybe, to a certain point where it went into creepy mode. Or perhaps I'm just being an introvert at that time, didn't really feel the courtesy. LOL But then again, we went there for the food and the food was great!
Gup's Fish & Chips were delicious. The fish fillets were well-cooked, it wasn't too crunchy on the outside nor was it too fishy. For me, it was a 'great catch'!
Nay had her Char-grilled Bacon Cheeseburger with two juicy beef patties and a corn cob on the side. I stole a bite from her and my, was it a very satisfying mouthful that was! It just left me thinking, why on earth didn't I order that?
I had the Cajun Chicken Pasta with Shrimps and it was magnificent in the first few mouthfuls and then it went overboard a little on the chilli and pepper, I think. I know nothing about culinary but i do know quite a bit about food and eating, so I say, too much chilli bits kind of raped the moisture out of the pasta and made it drier and rougher in texture. On the other hand, I liked the chicken cutlets and the Cajun shrimps. They were heavenly!
The Strawberry Shortcake topped with Vanilla Ice cream and Strawberry drizzle was nice though we all thought the shortcake was over-baked. Hence, the hardness in texture. As for the Chocolate Brownies which was served with ice cream and drizzled with more of the heavenly fudge was extremely good (understatement!). The brownies weren't too hard, nor too squeamish. And the enigma behind the hot and cold of the brownies and the ice cream was very good, high praise! Good blend and good eat, I'd say!
Headed to KSL City Mall and caught rom-com-thriller This Means War and were really impressed with the direction and the idea of this movie, really. Despite the "cheapskate-ness" we felt about the tickets being like a receipt, the movie was AWESOME and extremely funny! One thing though that really left an impression was this saying by Lauren (Resse Witherspoon's charactor)'s girlfriend, Trish. It went somewhere along the lines of: "To not choose the better man, but to choose the man who makes you the better woman" Caught me thinking. It made total sense and in a way, very relatable, considering the many transitions in my life, currently. Well, that, I save for another day.
Go catch it! |
We got a Wh tee and imprinted the outline of the state of Minnesota on it for Nay. She was of course, in all smiles! And after she blogged about not having anything happening on her actual birthday, we surprised her with a card filled with full-on meaningful details and well-thought-over creativity! LOL We did good, Gup! *high five*
The tee :) |
The envelope and the first flap of the card. |
The insides :) |
So i guess, that's the highlight of this whole week :) and it pretty much sums up how three ordinary strangers who have different intentions and different personalities can bond over less than a year to become the threeblackwidows.
Happy 19th, Nay!
