Singapore // Roaming Clarke Quay

It's my second time in the vicinity of Clarke Quay and played two roles here; First, I was an inquisitive, roaming lone tourist who soaked in everything - the river, the colourful restored quaint architecture of the buildings which now serves as luxe bars, bistros and restaurants where locals and expats like to sip on their sauvignon blancs after a long day of work. That was a year and a couple months ago, when I set foot here with Valerie which you can read about it here. And now, I am a tourist guide. Still inquisitive, but roughly in the know of where to go, what to expect and which route is to where. I felt pretty good about myself, to say the least. haha

If you get easily fascinated and don't mind spicing up your life with a little splash of colour, you'd love the buildings here! Each building is painted a different coat of paint of pastel hues; baby pink, pale yellow, light green and teal blue, with a contrasting shade of another colour on the windowpanes and the window frames respectively. As we strutted down the streets, we felt a little like we were in candyland or some sorts. Most of the buildings are either bistros, pubs, clubs and fancy restaurants which will come alive at around 8pm onwards. So, in order for you to see the lights and be the live of the party, it's best you come at night. But if you had to be back home by nightfall before you transform into a werewolf, you'll get to soak in all the colourful vibrancy.

I find this place in the mornings and the afternoons, quiet and serene. It is an ideal place for your daily jog routine in the evenings and also, a nice hang-out spot with your girlfriends at night. If you want to get all touristy, take a ride on the hippo / duck ferry tours along the Singapore river or if you prefer to walk, take a stroll by the river and be fascinated by the buildings around. It's good to take you mind off work for a while and smell the roses, and I think, Clarke Quay's a pretty good place just for that :)
