Youth Speak 2015 is a global youth survey aiming to gather the opinions and perspectives from a generation of young people and to share them with organizations like UNESCO and Microsoft, as well as young leaders in more that 113 countries.
Contribute by spending about 5 minutes on this survey powered by AIESEC and find out what kind of leadership style are you and what drives you to be the leader that you are!
I took this survey yesterday and the results were...
Key Characteristics:
• Goal/Results-driven
• Commitment to Results
• Personal Effectiveness
• Stakeholder Focus
You are customer and results-oriented. You know that people have limited time. Words and ideas may be important to you, but you care most about actions.
As a team member, you are effective both individually and in group work. You are most comfortable however when you have ability to drive the management and working style of the group. Your orientation toward goal achievement makes you a role model to others, and often means you will looked at as the standard for work ethic.
In a position of being a leader, your emphasis on making things happen will be important. You may find a place tracking projects, or on the ground in the thick of the action. One risk: Be careful that you don't let your focus on action go too far. It's important to plan, too!
In the workplace, your values mean that a desk job may not be for you. Perhaps you might want to make ideas reality by working in implementation teams or becoming an entrepreneur.
...
So, the big question now is do I find this relatable to me? Do I think that I'm a performance-driven leader?
I do think so, to a certain extent. Being a team member, I really like working with people and working on my own. I feel that working with a group of like-minded yet diverse people towards a certain goal works, in terms of variety and the plethora of ideas that could be potentially pitched. Although I do realise that in some of the situations I've been in, I tend to be the one who drives the group towards the specific direction, which is fine and I'm proud of. But yeah, I do enjoy learning about and learning with people because I'm a strong believer in interaction and communication between people makes the world go round and adds value to it; dialogue, as a path to greater wisdom and learning. On the other hand, working individually, to me, allows me to focus on and work towards my personal expectations on things and you know when sometimes, conversations can be pretty heated and overbearing? Sometimes, a little quiet time works to everyone's advantage. So, I think I could resonate to those two aspects :)
Why I find this result pretty true towards what I feel I am is also that I like to be involved very much in something I care about and something I'm passionate about. I'll go all out to achieve whatever I feel is close to my heart. I mean, who wouldn't right? But yes, I do admit that at times, I find myself to immersed in something, be it a hobby or a project I'm working on, till planning and organisation goes berserk. I think what I really need to do is before carrying out anything full-force, a full detailed plan or timeline has to be in play first. haha
With all that said, I feel like I am quite customer-orientated but I don't think that I'm very result-orientated though. It's not that I don't care about results, yes I do think achieving results is important and is what motivates a person or a group to strive for excellence. But at the same time, I feel like in everything we do, there's always going to be some failure, which is utterly fine! I think what matters most is how we respond to that failure or that success and focus more on what we've gained from the journey and the experience.
