Where To Eat // The Marco Polo Kitchen

There has been a facelift going on around my residential area this past year. The roundabout garden has been planted new greens and new pavements for joggers and new buildings are up and running. I kind of like how it's been very convenient for residents 'cause there's practically everything you possibly need just a stone's throw away. The Marco Polo Kitchen is one of the several new restaurants that's opened around the area and I finally had a chance to have lunch there with Naomi last mid-week after catching Breaking Dawn: Part 2 at the neighbouring TGV@ Jusco. It was such a great time!

The Marco Polo Kitchen serves mainly Italian cuisine and some of the many Asian/Malaysian favourites to cater to the Asian market. The one thing that made me fall in love with it is the decor and it's settings. From it's naked brick wall, the open pizza areas where we could see how our pizzas are made, to the pretty cozy bar area with it's cool glass shelf paneling and I particularly liked some of the antique-looking furniture choices. Unfortunately the Malaysian humid weather isn't so appropriate for us to enjoy our meal at the outdoor tables although it's shaded, we still got a pretty nice table at one of the many side windows with great lighting for photography. haha

We didn't get to try everything on the menu (although we really liked to), but what we had was pretty okay, I'd say. For drinks, we had the special MP Awakening which was a tropical mix of lime juice, pineapple juice, blue curacao, orange juice and soda, with a cherry on the side. It was of a tangy citrus boost of taste that would make every kid squish their faces into dried sour lemons. We also had an ice-blended hazelnut latte (RM9.99) which had a little of a burnt ash-y aftertaste, but it was nothing too overwhelming that we couldn't down.

As for the main course, the cajun chicken sandwiches that I tried was average. I wouldn't say it was the best I've ever tasted but I guess, the unique plating makes it okay. ha ha The bread that clasped the patties together were not fresh and it wasn't fluffy. So, I didn't really liked the bread. However, I really like the idea of serving the whole meal on a wooden block (more like a nice-looking thick chopping board) and the fries in a metal spade. The sandwiches were of slices of cheese and tomatoes, caramelized onions, lettuce and two chicken breast patties. The fat fries served with sprinkles of salt and a BBQ dressing on the side was good. I was a satisfied customer, in terms of plating and fries.

Nay had the grilled chicken breast with fries served with salsa, if I'm not mistaken. I tried a mouthful of it and it wasn't too bad. According to Nay, the salsa wasn't savoury enough but it was of a pretty big serving. The plating, again, deserves some praise. I personally like how the kinda sprinkled little bits of basil over the plate, giving it some aroma which didn't overkill the chicken. LOL I think I watch too much food TV shows!

As for dessert, we both shared the crème brûlée . It was my first time trying a crème brûlée although I've heard about it sooooooo many times on Glee, High School Musical and well, food TV shows, about how it has to be crispy on the outside but soft and creamy on the insides. So, I must say, my expectations were pretty high. And, after I took the first bite, I kept going for more. The sugary layer on top of the filling was crispy and the filling was creamy. And it tasted pretty good, for me, having not tried a crème brûlée before.

The service was great. The waiter who served us was very friendly and recommended some of the kitchen's speciality; what was good and what wasn't. hahaha He was pretty honest, for a waiter. Catch this, we even met the manager! Well, we didn't intended to but he came to see who we were and asking us how the food was (when our food hasn't even arrived) hahaha He must have seen me, taking pictures of the whole place and actually thought we were journalists, writing a review on the restaurant or something. I bet he was a little disappointed when we told him we were just students who just graduated from high school. Looks like we look like working-class heroes :) yay?
